Jerry Lawson is also a native of Central New York went to Chittenango High School, Mohawk Community College and Boston University. Jerry took up cross country in high school because he did not make the football team being 6 foot and 140 pounds. He did not make the baseball team in the spring either, so he tried track and field and the rest is history.

In 1992, Jerry ran 14 minutes and 8 seconds in a 5k road race and won the empire state games triple crown, 5k in 14:20, 10k in 29:35 and steeple chase in 9:11. He also won the Jacksonville marathon in 2:14:33.

In 1993, he became the California marathon champion in 2 hours ten minutes and 27 seconds

Jerry finished second in the 1996 Chicago marathon and tied the American record of 2 hours 10 minutes and 4 seconds.

In 1997, Jerry set an American record at the Chicago marathon running 2 hours nine minutes and 35 seconds, missing a 1-million-dollar bonus by just by 48 seconds. He won the Austin half marathon in a 1 hour 1 minute and 43 seconds in 1998.

Jerry Lawson is also a 7-time champion of the Mountain Goat Run in 1985, 86, 88, 92, 95, 96 and 97. The 1992 Mountain Goat win was on the old course that went up to the Woodlawn reservoir water tower and Jerry set a race record that still stands today with 48 minutes and 52 seconds. Jerry comes home often to run the Mountain Goat from his home in Jacksonville, Florida.
