“Always there “ is the best way to describe Dave Beach’s relationship with the Mountain Goat Run. Race director, finish line coordinator, packet pick up, volunteer, or any other job you needed done, Dave Beach was your man.
Known to his friends, co-workers, members of the Syracuse Track Club, and the Mountain Goat as Doctor Beach, Dave received nothing but respect from all around him because he earned it.
Dave was a professor of microbiology at Upstate and would start his morning at 4 AM by turning the cultures in his lab. After his morning lab duties, during Mountain Goat season, he would drive around in his Subaru station wagon with his trusted dog Duffy and make sure the runners training for the Goat had water. Dave was instrumental to starting the training runs and would often describe how in the old days they would run the entire course on Saturday and come back and do it on Sunday to get ready for the goat.
Dave was a past president of the Syracuse Track Club and each year, signed up to run the Mountain Goat, even after his knees would not allow him to run
the race. He did it to support the Goat.
